Every Vortex model is upgradeable, so you can upgrade your detector to a higher model through software updates. As your capabilities and requirements increase, you can update your Metalldetektoren to the next higher model using a paid activation code. Each Vortex upgrade then includes additional operating frequencies, extended functions and more power. This has potential and will change the way Metalldetektoren is bought and used. A path to greater sustainability and a new way forward in the industry.

The VX7 model has more power and offers additional frequency and mode options compared to the VX5. In addition, the powerful multi-frequency salt mode has been added for use in wet sand and salt water. The target ID display is two-stage (with separate scales for ferrous and non-ferrous objects). A total of 5 signal tones and adjustable response speed round off the detector.

Novelty Upgradeability
The revolutionary feature of the Garrett Vortex series is its upgradeability. For the first time, you can upgrade your Metalldetektoren to a higher model through software upgrades. This means that you can turn your VX5 into a VX7 or even a VX9 without having to buy a completely new detector. The upgrade cost is between $85 and $150. This innovative feature ensures that your device always remains state of the art and you can benefit from the latest features.


VX7 waterproof to 5 meters
The Garrett Vortex VX7 is fully waterproof to 5 meters. Designed for dusty, humid or damp environments. For underwater / water use, we recommend underwater headphones.

Target ID Scales
The Target ID scales are one of the main features that make this series stand out. The VX5 has a simple 0-99 Target ID scale that allows users to quickly identify metal types. The VX7 improves on this system with a two-level Target ID scale.

MD-MF frequencies
Frequencies play a crucial role in the detection of metals in different soil types. The VX5 works with two multi-frequencies, making it versatile and effective in different environments. The VX7 expands the possibilities with seven frequencies, including multi-salt options, 9 kHz, 13 kHz, 18 kHz and 25 kHz.

Variable response speeds and wireless connectivity
Variable response speed is another highlight of the Vortex series. The VX7 has two response speed settings. The VX7 is wireless enabled, which allows for convenient and interference-free use. This is particularly useful for professional treasure hunters who spend long periods of time in the field.



Additional setting options
The VX7 also offers features such as sensitivity settings, a variable number of ID tones and iron volume for a comprehensive search experience.

Z-Lynk™ wireless technology
Z-Lynk wireless technology offers sound transmission with hardly any delay (maximum delay of 17 ms). No cable and no interference with other wireless headphones.
